PRETTY52'S GUIDE TO THE PERFECT SKINCARE ROUTINE

Products used in this post are from Kiehl's and are dermatology recommended skin care solutions, hair care, body care, beauty & cosmetics.

A good skincare routine is something everyone should adopt into their daily life. Whether its a morning pick me up or a night-time calm down, caring for your skin should be at the top of your priority.

Building up skincare essentials is vital for healthy looking skin. Whichever brand you prefer along with products that suit you, should be your approach to strengthening and restoring the barriers of your face, whilst aiming to appear more radiant. After all, the stress of daily life does take its toll.

Now don't get me wrong, it can seem overwhelming at first: all the different creams, what goes before what, how many steps you have to take in order to get clear skin...but it is all worth it in the long run. Products suited to your own skin, that will care for it and cleanse your face the right way, will leave you glowing and feeling super fresh.

Follow Pretty52's guide to the perfect skincare routine!

Step 1: Clear a space for you to relax and create

There's nothing worse than spilling your products all over your sheets as you're lying in bed at night. If you're looking for a skincare routine that takes care of everything on your list, you're going to need a lot of room.

Find a place that works for you, even something as simple as your bathroom or dressing table to allow yourself space to lay everything out.

Step 2: Get all your products ready

This step is to make sure you've got everything you need in order to have a kickass day or peaceful night.

Depending on the time of day, your products will vary and you need to decide what you think is best suited to your routine. Some you'll double up twice a day, and others you'll only need once. It seems like a lot of effort, but just keep thinking of that Kardashian glow!

Step 3: Cleansing your skin

If you're anything like us and like to experiment with make-up (check out this AMAZING lip-art inspo: http://www.pretty52.com/stylish/hair-and-beauty-lipspiration-these-lip-looks-will-make-you-want-to-grab-your-lippy-20160310), then you need to make sure you take it off correctly and give your skin a good cleanse.

Micellar water is bae for making sure that any hard-to-budge make up comes off smoothly and restores any moisture that was taken away. Micellar water can be used as a facial wash or make up remover as the micelles in the formula are attracted to dirt and oil, which allows any impurities in the skin to be drawn out.

The second part to cleansing your skin is to use a toner to soothe any redness or sensitivity. Pour a couple of drops onto a cotton pad and gently blend into your skin. This will just give you an extra cleanse once you've taken your make up off, to ensure that any excess oil or dirt is taken care of.

Step 4: Prepping your skin

If you're looking for a basic skincare routine, you could probably miss this step out. But gals...would Queen Bey miss out a step for her glowing skin?

Yeah. I didn't think so.

An activating essence treatment effectively activates your skin for a smoother and more radiant appearance. Despite its oily consistency, it doesn't weigh into your pores and instead releases hydrating ingredients directly into different surface layers. You only need a few drops to create a glow!

Step 5: Restoring moisture

With wearing make up everyday or being exposed to sunlight, it is easy for our skin's natural moisture to be drained. Skin should retain around 40-50% of water, but the average person typically comes in at around 28-31%.

This step in your skincare routine will help target any dry areas whilst making your appear much more awake. Let's face it, if you can cheat your way to a more awake look, it means more time for Netflix marathons ;)

Investing in two different oils is a good idea as each will concentrate on exactly what your skin needs for either day or night. A daytime oil defends against any toxins and helps to keep skin fresh; whilst a nighttime one will work its magic whilst you sleep!

A few drops is enough for your whole face, and remember to pat it on- do not rub.

Step 6: Moisturising

The final layer to your perfect skincare routine lies with a facial cream.

To help lock in all the goodness you've released into your skin, a good moisturiser is where it's at. This will leave you feeling smooth, soft and hydrated! But remember to get one with a lightweight texture to ensure your skin doesn't feel weighed down.

Step 7: Check out your results!

After a few days of following your skincare routine you'll start to see a difference. Your skin will feel much softer, along with a beautiful glow!

15 SIGNS YOU'VE FOUND A KEEPER

The best feeling in life is knowing you've found a good egg....y'know the ones that aren't embarrassed by your dance moves on a night out, or the one's who love you even when your mascara is half way down your face.

The people that love you for who you are.

Sometimes life can be so busy that even the simplest things pass us by and make us forget to appreciate the people who really matter. But when you start comparing your love life to a movie, or get excited, even after your 117th date night: you know they're a keeper.

1. He has your back at all times.

Let's be honest, we all over-react sometimes but it's nice to know that they'll stick up for you anyway.

2. He knows you more than you know yourself.

From not knowing what to order from the Chinese or trying to decide what to do with your life...if he's a keeper, he'll know what you're going to chose before you do.

3. He sticks with you during the worst of times.

It could be something as simple as holding your hair back when you've had too much to drink, he's there when even you wouldn't fancy yourself.

4. He understands that when you're hungover netflix and chill....really does just mean netflix and chill.

A cuddle makes everything better.

5. They make you laugh.

Like proper belly laugh, you can't breath laugh. They make you laugh like no one else can.

6. His flaws annoy you, but you're willing to ignore them in order to be together.
You're only human and there is no point in denying that his morning breath doesn't bother you. But you're willing to put up with it if it means waking up next to him.

7. He’ll wait patiently for you to finish up your shopping.

If he does this- marry him. Right now. Before he changes his mind.

8. He makes you feel safe.

Not in a Bruno Mars 'I'll catch a grenade for you' kind of crap, but that being with him is your happy place.

9. He'll watch crappy *cough, in his opinion* tv shows with you.

We get that Say Yes To The Dress isn't everyone's cup of tea, but the fact that he's willing to watch it with you means a lot.

10. He knows exactly what to say when you're stressed.

He's there for you when you need talked down from a bad day, and knows what you need to hear.

11. Your...um sex life is pretty spectacular ;)

10 POINTS TO GRIFFYNDOR (...or whatever house they belong to.)

12. Even the most mundane things seem exciting.

A family event can be made 100% more interesting when they're involved.

13. They're your favourite person to get drunk with.

Drunken memories can turn into private jokes between the two of you.

14. They're just as goofy you.

When you've found someone who's weird scale is on par with yours, you know you've found a keeper.

15. He's consistent.

There is no worry of having to wait two days for a text because you know you're his first priority.

PRETTY52 | HOW TO USE A BULLET JOURNAL

When you think of a bullet, you think of something small, compact, precise and quick.
When you think of a journal, you think of a diary, to-do lists and reminders.
Combine the two and you have an organised planner that even Monica Geller would be jealous of.

This lil slice of organisation can be as creative and colourful as you want, that's the beauty of it. You can choose whichever notebook you like, I decided to go for a blank canvas so I could build it up to make it more personal, and start from there.

We live in an era where everything is entered into a device that has a screen, a keypad, a battery that (if you're lucky) lasts around five minutes. So sometimes it's nice to take this back to the basics, and let your creative side flow. I mean everything you'll probably write in your bullet journal, could be saved into the notes section on your iPhone...but think of all the colouring pens you get to buy along with it!

How To Prep Your Journal

What you'll need:

A blank notebook
Colouring pens/ pencils
Ruler

A bullet journal can be anything you want it to be, from a list of reminders to a calendar that plans every minute of your life. It's up to you.

First things first, you've got to find a method that works for you, but remember you can use it for whatever you like!

I decided to split mines into three sections: the first page of the journal I've created a structure that the rest of the pages will follow.

Section One is a diary and to-do list that will be updated monthly, weekly and daily in order to stay on top of things.

Section Two is an overview for the year, which allows forward planning.

Section Three is a creative space for anything I want to remember but isn't necessarily important.

Creating a contents page is essential if you're planning to use your journal for a whole year. It means you're not going to get lost in all the information and keeps you focussed on what you need to remember, and helps maps out everything that the journal contains.

A 'bullet key' is also a good tip to help you stay on top of what is essential, and what can be carried on to the next week. Take a look at the one in the photo to give you an idea of how to structure your key.

Part One: Diary

Because you'll be using your bullet journal for so much, it is easy to get swamped in all the information. Split it into three sections to allow yourself balance and also structure.

I've used part one of my Bullet Journal as if it was my diary. Using my ruler, I've drawn out a calendar, split into different boxes, to give a brief overview of general things that I need to remember over the month and can see in advance. Once you've set each month up like this, you're good to go for the full year!

I've then assigned myself goals that I want to achieve within that month. These won't be as adventurous as my yearly goals, but little things that will help me accomplish the overall picture.

Alongside the goals, I've created a monthly to-do list. This may seem like a lot of effort, and while you have things you need to do everyday, there could be certain events that you may need to plan for throughout the month.

Your daily planner (or a weekly one if you'd rather an overview instead of a step-by-step routine!) will most likely be the most in-depth part of your bullet journal. This page will allow you to jot anything down that you need to remember to do each day, or schedule any work appointments/ plan for any uni essays.

Be sure to make it as creative as possible; remember it is your bullet journal and should reflect your personality! I've injected lots of colour, some doodles on the page, and a cute daily quote to provide optimism.

Part Two: Planner

So you've already set your planner up to help you achieve/ remember everything you wanted to do in a day, week, and month.

Part two of your bullet journal is for you to plan ahead and think of the year as a whole. You can even section each part off with a cute bookmark.

Similar to the calendar overview for every month, I've decided to create a year only which will allow me to see anything important coming up at a glance. Because let's face it, there's nothing worse than forgetting someone's birthday!

Here at Pretty52 we're all about optimism (check out our simple daily habits: http://www.pretty52.com/you/life-simple-daily-habits-that-will-help-you-stay-optimistic-20160526), so utilise your bullet journal and list everything you know you are 100% capable of doing. It doesn't have to be anything crazy like skydiving, anything that you aim to do throughout the year should be listed in your goals.

Push the boundaries and create goals for yourself. Give yourself a challenge for every month of the year, so you can look back and realise how much you've achieved throughout the year.

Don't forget to mark in each one of your achievements once you've completed your goals!

I tend to use lots of different coloured pens to make the journal seem much brighter and nicer to look at. The more you decorate it to suit yourself, the more likely you are to use it.

Part Three: Journal

Although you've been creative throughout your bullet journal, section three gives you free space to use it for whatever you like.

Sections one and two are quite structured (obviously... a diary is meant to remind you of things) but shop-bought ready-made journals don't really allow you free reign at the back to let you jot down pretty much anything.

Get all your colouring pencils out: create a list, a mind-map, draw some pictures. Anything that helps make the journal YOURS.

The beauty of a blank notepad means you get to to build it up to suit your lifestyle. I've used section three for things I always, always forget. I'm so guilty of planning a movie night, but never actually knowing what to watch. Write down a list of movies you've wanted to watch, or ones that have been recommended to you!

Create some mind maps for occasions that you may stress about. I always tend to overpack, but somehow forget things I actually need.

List everything you need to take on holiday with you, and underline the ones that should absolutely go in your bag first.

Or if mind maps aren't your thing, draw some boxes in various colours and check off each one as you go.

I did this for my travel wishlist, which helps me keep a note of places I've been to, and places I want to visit.

PRETTY52 | THE GUIDE TO THE PERFECT SUMMER BBQ

We don't want to it jinx anything by saying that summer might actually have arrived, but.... it's looking pretty nice out there. If you're anything like us (meaning eating is probably your fave hobby) then this list is for you!

A barbecue is at the top of everyone's summer list, so get yourself prepared to have the best one yet.

Although they do come with a lil bit of preparation. You might think 'BBQ's are so easy, you just fling some stuff on and hope for the best'. Wrong. SO wrong. There is so much prepping to do: What food to buy? What drinks to get in? Who to invite? OMG, I haven't even thought if there will be enough seats for everyone!

But don't worry, Pretty52 have got you covered!

And remember, the best thing about summertime barbecues is that they are an excuse to create a mini festival in your back garden…just without the feared festival toilets!

Get organised

BBQ's are all about having fun: invite your favourite people over (hey, they might even bring some fruity ciders with them!) and start prepping.

Before you even think about food, you need to get your surroundings up to scratch! No one wants to go over to someone's house to find out they have to sit on grass that quite clearly hasn't been cut in about 6 months.

Grab all the deck chairs you can find and a big table, which you probably have lurking at the back of your garage. Make sure there is enough room for you to lay everything out...for Instagram flat-lay purposes of course, nothing to do with making room for your guests or anything.

Decorate your garden so it looks all pretty, put some summer tunes on and get started!

Get yourself a BBQ....obviously

Whether its a disposable one, or a really good one that your Dad 100% bought from B&Q four years ago but never used, you kinda need one of these bad boys to actually, y'know, have a barbecue.

Preheat it so that once your guests arrive, you can put food on right away.

(FYI: Most festivals don't allow BBQ's because health and safety, so technically you're one-upping Glastonbury already. Just sayin'.)

Prepare your food

Depending on your preference you can have anything you fancy. With burgers, sausages and kebabs to choose from, BBQ food is incredible. You can just about cook literally anything on one.

(toasted marshmallows and 'smores are optional but highly advised)

Make sure you have lots of different sauces to chose from, along with napkins and paper plates. Although they might not be good for the environment, taking anything glass or ceramic outside could easily break and cause an accident.

Chill out

What is summer without a frozen strawberry daiquiri?!

Luckily, you don't have to go abroad (or unlucky, whichever way you want to look at it!) since different supermarkets stock lots of cocktails. When it gets too warm, which it can be standing over a barbecue for a while, these will instantly cool you down.

If you're not a fan of these fruity drinks, cider is also a good companion with a burger!

Get a good selection in, so your guests have a choice.

Relax and enjoy

Now you can have fun!

With the food, drink and your location prepared, you can finally enjoy. Although it might seem like a lot of hassle to get everything ready, a BBQ is a guaranteed summer hit.

Put your favourite playlist on in the background whilst you all lounge outside, and it really will feel like your own mini festival.
(Top tip: If you don't have a portable speaker, put your phone in a plastic glass to make a DIY one!)

PRETTY52 | THE PAMPER CHECK LIST YOU NEED FOR YOUR SUMMER HOLIDAY

Picture this: It is the night before your holiday. Your case is still to be packed, your boyfriend has decided he's still got three shirts to iron, and you're trying to figure out how EasyJet's online check-in bloody works....and then suddenly, you realise how much there is still left to be done. Your legs need shaved. Your hair needs washed. Your nails aren't even painted. AND you need to put on a lil bit of fake tan to hide world's palest legs.

No matter how much we prepare, the run up to any holiday can be stressful. Double checking you've got the passports looked out, making sure your travel insurance is legit, and praying that your flight doesn't get delayed. In the midst of preparing your travel documents and packing your suitcase, it can be easy to forget simple things.

Pretty 52 have made a super easy pamper check list to help you out when it comes to looking good for your holiday. Save this post for around a week before you go away. This gives yourself some time to prepare, relax and ensure you're holiday ready.

Exfoliate

We all know how important it is to get rid of any dead skin on your body to help make way for your new tan. Grab your exfoliating mitt (you can get these from your local supermarket for about a pound) and rid yourself of any scaly, flaky skin *eww*

Make sure to use lots of replenishing products to give your skin a new and healthy glow.

De-fuzz your body

Each to their own if people might actually like having hairy armpits, but for those who like to be silky smooth, grab your razor and get cracking! (Or you could book into a salon and get them to do it for you, cos effort)

Over the winter we probably go a little longer than normal between shaving our legs (hey, we need to keep warm!), but it is summer now. It is time for de-layering, ladies! After exfoliating, your legs should feel clean and now it is time to make them soft.

I tend to use conditioner instead of shaving cream when shaving my legs as it leaves them feeling suuuuper soft and the smell is usually nicer too.

Moisturise

Now time to inject some well needed TLC into your skin (which let's face it, probably doesn't see much sun on a day-to-day basis). Be generous with the amount you use. Hey, I doubt Queen Bey scrimps and saves when it comes to her skin!

The Body Shop's range tends to work well with any skin type and there are millions of scents to choose from. Apply on your legs after shaving, along with any other dry skin that you have. Moisturising is a vital step that your body needs before you go on holiday to keep it looking healthy and fresh.

Get a healthy glow

Alright, so this step isn't vital or anything...but there's nothing wrong with a healthy glow. We're not talking about a full on orange-tinted tan or anything, but just a base if you're hoping to get a natural tan whilst you're away.

Plus! Fake tan is better for your skin than full exposure to the sun...and it also prevents you from looking like Casper in day one and two of your holiday pics. Just sayin'.

Give your hair a good treatment

The night before you go away pour yourself the dreamiest of baths (link to other p52 post: http://www.pretty52.com/you/life-pretty52s-potion-for-the-perfect-relaxing-bath-time-20160501), light a couple of candles (and y'know pour yourself a glass of prosecco COS YOU'RE GOING ON YOUR HOLIDAYS! *dancing woman emoji).

Guaranteed when you're away your hair will be lacking moisture and volume, it'll have so much sand and suntan lotion in it that it will just feel disgusting. Treat yourself to a good hair mask (heads up: Aussie 3-minute miracle hair conditioner is the best) and let your locks soak in all the goodness.

Sort your brows out

We've all got our own preferences when it comes to our brows: threading, waxing or tweezing. Whatever your favourite is, there's no denying that a good brow has taken over our lives.

Book an appointment in advance to save yourself any stress of WHY CAN'T MY EYEBROW LADY FIT ME IN EXACTLY WHEN I WANT HER. Because chances are, the exact time you want will be booked around 3 weeks in advance.

Get ahead of the schedule and make sure your arch looks on fleek (or if they don't, just draw them in yourself!)

Paint your nails

No one can board a plane with chipped nails. I repeat. No one can go on holiday with chipped nails.

It's like the law or something.

Either book into your local nail salon (but, let's be honest, you're more likely to save that money to spend on make up at duty free) or get your best products out and do a manicure at home. (link to other post here: http://www.pretty52.com/stylish/hair-and-beauty-diy-nail-art-hacks-that-you-need-in-your-life-20160503)

Get your base coat, a summer colour, a top coat and even the cuticle oil out. Gal, your nails are an important part of this checklist!

What are your pre-holiday pamper rituals?
